😟I had someone wanting me to make a post about money saving techniques during a pandemic (COVID19 😨). So, I thought I would Oblige. Before I get started, I wanted to take a minute to tell you that I've had family and friends that have caught the "COVID", and I must say, this thing affects people in different ways. An elderly uncle of mine was down for about a week and half with it and is just fine now and back to normal. Another older friend of mine caught it and was down for 10 days, and is just fine, so my point is, that if you get it, it isn't an automatic death sentence! If you have any underlying health issues such as me (TYPE 2 DIABETIC), things can go much worse. If you will just take a few simple precautions, we can get through this much quicker.
If you have to go anywhere make sure to wear your mask, Wash your hands constantly, and practice social distancing. Also try to take vitamins and take some "hydroxychloroquine." This can be found in tonic water and has had very good results in helping to aid in curing this awful disease.
Despite what you may have seen or heard on the news, the number of cases they are reporting are skewed, and the reason for this is because "hospitals" receive large sums of money from the government for every "COVID" death. So, morgues toe tag everyone with the disease, and obviously that's not true. Even with the overblown numbers, less than half of 1% of the reported cases are ending in death. With that being said, please don't misinterpret what I'm trying to say. (*ALM*) - All Lives Matter!
If we can all just do our parts, we can get this under control and get back to living our lives. Below are just a few simple things you can try at home in order to save money, because let's face it, with everything going on in the world today, there is a big uncertainty with our lively hoods, and that to me is quite scary!
{Let's save some money for a rainy day}:
👍Cook your own meals, snacks and desserts:
As a bodybuilder, I usually cook twice a week. I cook meals to last me for about 3 days at a time, and try to eat 5-6 small meals per day, and mark them with dates in plastic containers. Believe it or not, I find cooking to have a calming effect, and obviously if you're a smart shopper you can save a lot of money versus going out to eat. If you don't like to cook much, try doing it with your significant other. Make it fun. Clip coupons if you have to. Buy in bulk. I am a master of smart purchasing, and I've been single for years!
I shop at my local Kroger, and buy typically Kroger brand products, which is much cheaper. I know a lot of women can sometimes be picky about wanting certain brand name foods and refuse to lower themselves to eating store brand products. That's your decision, but it's a way to save, and that's what this post is all about.
Look for products near the end of their shelf life. Stores always heavily discount price these items. You may only save a few bucks every time you go, but it adds up over time.
Purchase frozen foods and vegetables. They are slightly cheaper and hold more of their nutritional value over fresh fruits and vegetables.
👍Cut back on subscriptions:
If you're used to getting the newspaper, cancel it. Anything you see in the paper, you have at your fingertips with your phone, which brings me here. call around and find a cheaper phone provider. You'd be surprised what kind of deals you can get if you have a family of 4. If you're going out to a movie with your loved one/s, we all know how expensive that will be. Instead go to your local movie rental place and rent a couple movies for the night. I realize you can't completely shut down your life, but you can slightly alter things, at least until things get better, and I can promise you they will!
👍Rework vacation plans:
Ok, I know what you're thinking. You're working your butt off day in and day out, for weeks, months, and years, just so you can take that one week off a year unless you've accumulated more time, so you can take that 1 great family vacation. All I'm saying is put that on hold for a while. There are many things you can do with the family and have fun, but you will have to figure out what that is.
👍Declutter and sell:
When you have some time go through your house and garage, and find items that you longer want, and price them for garage/yard sales. You'd be surprised at some the junk people will purchase. You've heard the term, "One man's junk, is another man's treasure?" That's absolutely true. I know this because I've had many yard sales over the years, and sold some real junk, and actually made some pretty good money. All the things I'm suggesting you try, it's always going to be much more fun with your significant other.
👍Don't make impulse purchases:
Resist the urge, and wait before committing to a purchase, because by doing so, you may later decide you either didn't want the purchase after all, or you might find the purchase cheaper elsewhere. I realize that most of what I'm telling you is common sense, but sometimes when people are struggling with everyday life occurrences they aren't thinking clearly and miss the simplest of tasks, and I'm no different. Shop at places like the dollar store, goodwill, or Walmart. These are only temporary.
👍Keep a separate savings account:
If you're lucky enough to have a J.O.B (Just Over Broke), during these tough times, consider yourself lucky, because there are around 50 million people across the country that have lost their homes/JOBS, and this number is growing daily. I just seen that 2 mall owners had to file bankruptcy on over 100 malls they own across the United States, and including the mall in my small town of 60,000+.
You will have to decide how much money to put back from each miniscule paycheck that you receive, and use that money for emergencies such as home repairs, because let's face it, these unexpected things will happen, and you have to be prepared for them. Also, by starting a separate account, it's money that you won't miss, or be tempted to withdraw for impulse buying. You can have x amount of money direct deposited into your account weekly/bi-weekly depending on when you're paid, from your employer. You can call this your emergency funds if you like.
Switch your bank account. Banks like new customers, and sometimes they offer money incentives, or even electrical gifts just for switching. They may ask you why you want to leave your current banking establishment, and you will just need to tell them why you are no longer satisfied with that institution, and I'm sure you can do that.
👍Do your own hair, this is for the ladies:
I'm no longer married, but still have a mother, and she likes to go get her hair cut and washed about every month or 2, and that 15–20-minute venture will end up costing her around $30, and I know in bigger cities that cost would be much higher.
Let's say that an average woman goes to the beauty shop every month, and spends in excess of $50 each visit, that would be $600 a year, that you could be spending toward something else. And I get it, you ladies want to look good for your guys, but we 💕you just the way you are. Again, I'm not saying totally quit going, but if you alter some of these things I'm telling you, they do add up, and the savings will show, I promise you. Do your hair from home, and we are happy campers!
👍Electricity:
When not in a room always turn your lights out. In the summertime when it's hot, if you have a small fan try utilizing that versus running your central air unit, and in the winter, try to set your thermostat at around 71/72, and leave it alone if possible. When cooking, if you have a grill, try to utilize it more versus cooking in the oven. It's going to save you money, plus if you're anything like me, I personally think items cooked on the grill taste much better than cooking in the over. Even unplugging appliances can potentially save you $100-$200 yearly and also protect you from power surges.
👍Investing in the stock market:
This is definitely a risk, and if you're needing $$$ right now, this is probably not the way to go. This would be a sound financial decision if you're looking to make over the long haul, say 10 years. Just make sure to do your due diligence before investing.
👍Student Loans:
If you have Loans out, they are going to be agreeable to be paid usually within 25 years, but that can vary depending on each case. If you're struggling financially talk to your student advisor to see if you can rework your payment plan in order to either, make the payment a smaller monthly amount or see if you can extend the duration of the loan.
👍Reduce your car insurance premium:
Same case as above. You can either find a cheaper company or talk to your local insurance agent to rework your payment. I know you can have that changed to a monthly, quarterly, half year, or yearly, depending on what your current agreement. This can be changed at any time by just contacting your agent.
👍Walk/Ride a bike:
There are a few benefits by utilizing these 2 methods. If you don't have to go very far, you can walk or ride your bike, which will save wear and tear on your vehicle, and you get some exercise which we can all use, and assuming the weather is good, you can enjoy the outside. I like to walk late at night, and I get peace and quiet, and it clears my mind. Very powerful and needed.
👍Air dry:
Instead of always using your dish washer. sometimes either set them out to air dry or towel dry. Not saying you always have to do this but mix it up.
👍Don't get burned with hot water:
Lower the thermostat on your water heater to 120f. This is the second highest source of energy used in your home.
👍Fill it up:
When washing Clothes or Dishes, try to always wash full loads. That will ensure you're washing much less.
👍Keep them clean:
Check your furnace, heat pump, and AC filters monthly, and replace them regularly. They will run much more efficiently.
👍Stop the breeze:
Weather strip and caulk around drafty doors and windows.
👍Stay bright:
When replacing bulbs, replace them with light emitting diode bulbs (LED). You will save anywhere between $75-$90 a year in electricity costs and will use about 25% less energy by doing so.
👉I just gave you several ways to save money, especially during this pandemic, so I hope you do your part to stay safe and try some of these methods. Look around your house, and I'm sure you will find more ways, but I wanted to show you a few so you can open the flood gates within your mind and think outside the box.
