*** Living With Diabetes/Flat Belly Rule *** {650}

πŸ˜Today's post is about a subject near and dear to my heart, and that is Diabetes. I've been fighting this horrible disease since 2009 and I'm beyond fitness minded and have been for well over 50 years. This awful disease has taken over millions of lives and sadly most people especially in the United States don't take care of their health and lets Diabetes get the best of them until it's too late.

I personally know many people that have succumbed from complications due to this uncurable disease because they continue to do everything they are told not to do. Sadly, the United States is the most obese country in the world and that's a big part of the problem.

Junk food is easy and tastes great because I ate that way as young kid, but fitness took over my life many decades ago and I'm happy It did. I eat very well, and workout 5-6 days a week and even walk with a good friend once a week assuming the weather permits it, and he is also a long time diabetic as well but doesn't really take the necessary steps to better his health and for the longest time, his numbers were better than mine which is why this is such a confusing disease. I will be honest, I didn't know much about it until I was diagnosed with it, and I was stunned because of my fitness routine over the years. I used to eat 6 small meals per day and weighed my foods each time I ate.

Newer science has told us that Diabetes wasn't about eating a lot of Sugars and carbs like we were told by our Dr.s. Now it's all about a small enzyme blocking the pancreas and its ability to push insulin into the cells properly. This is why everyone deals with Diabetes in a different way because our pancreas functions differently in each individual. If you're a type 1 diabetic that means that your pancreas has completely quit producing insulin, and Dr.s are putting their patients on a pump, or several Insulin shots daily which aren't food for you but there is no alternative for those individuals, and if you're type 2 such as myself, that means the pancreas is still producing Insulin, but it has problems pushing Insulin into the cells and needs medication.

Type 2 diabetics typically use Metformin because it's the go to drug with a lot of benefits pertaining to weight management and lowering blood sugar levels but there are also side effects such as vitamin b12 deficiency, and gastrointestinal issues such as Bloating, Diarrhea, and nausea just to name a few. Check with your physician to see the best course of action. Personally, I would recommend seeing an endocrinologist because that's what they specialize in.

I started out just taking Metformin, and then over time it got worse, and I had to take 4-5 Insulin shots daily, and my numbers started bottoming out, and told my DR. to take me off of so many Insulin shots and he refused so I had to see a specialist, and was told to throw the Metformin and Insulin away because I didn't need it.

About 5 years later with the same specialist, and I'm right back on Insulin, but I now take 1 12 unit shot every day instead of 4-5, and I also take 1 25 MG pill of Jardiance which is an oral medication used to manage blood sugar with type 2 diabetics. I also take a weekly shot of Trulicity which is another injectable medication that aids in lowering blood sugar levels and helps lower the risk of heart attacks and strokes. All of these injectable medications are also supposed to help with weight management.

I've always had a very low body fat percentage, but I was on Trulicity shots daily a few years ago and was able to get my body fat down to 7.4% and shredded but this was before I went back on Insulin. The Trulicity just wasn't enough to get my glucose numbers down low enough so I'm back on Insulin. Fode those that don't know, Insulin puts weight on people using it. Back in the early 90s before steroids were as popular as they are now, professional bodybuilders were taking large doses of Insulin to help build muscle.

I've studied Diabetes for years, and I can tell you with great certainty there is no cure for this disease despite all of the claims you see on the internet. The best you can hope for is for it to go into remission which means your glucose number have returned to a non-diabetic range without the use or aid of medications, however it is important to note that reemission is not a cure and the metabolic disfunction may return if your current lifestyle changes are reversed.

What is an A1C? An A1C is a test that measures the average amount of sugar in your blood over a 2–3-month period. A normal A1C level is below 5.7% while levels of 6.5% or higher indicates that you are a diabetic. Over the years the best I've been able to do is a 7.4% A1C, and my last blood test was 10% which equals a daily reading of 240 which isn't good. Depending on the DR. they will want your numbers between 80-120 throughout the day, or at least close to that.

When I was on all the Insulin, I once got down to 44 and I started getting the shakes and almost passed out which if untreated will kill you, and the highest that I know of was over 500 one day after the gym. I didn't feel bad at the time, but when it was low, I was very sick. I consumed a lot of peanut butter in order to raise my blood glucose. Other things you can use in case you run into this problem is Coke, Orange Juice, and even cake icing just to name a few.

If you should become a type 1 or 2 diabetic, and I hope you don't, but if you do, it's not a death sentence unless it goes untreated, and in that case, you will die sooner than later. It's simply about making some life altering changes. It starts in the kitchen with what you put in your body, but it doesn't end there. Exercise will go a long way in keeping your glucose numbers in check combined with the things you put into your body, and the meds your DR. prescribes. You will also want to try getting plenty of sleep (8 hours).

Diabetes is a very complicated disease and works differently within each individual and it may take you a long time with a doctors help to get it under control. Up until recently It's been a real struggle for me even though I did things the right way, but through trial and error I've finally got my numbers under control and I'm going to tell you exactly how I did it.

πŸ’ͺ {My daily regimen}:

1) Approximately 2 hours of weight training 5-6 days per week!

2) 15 minutes of cardio daily! (Treadmill - 15-degree incline, 3.1 MPH)!

3) 12 units of Insulin (1) shot daily!

4) .075 MG of Trulicity (1) shot weekly!

5) Random walks during the summer months!

6) 25 MG of Jardiance (1) pill daily!

7) 10 MG of Januvia (1) pill daily!

8) Moringa (2) capsules daily! (Purchased Online) - Vitamins, Minerals, and proteins!

9) True Nutra (7/1 drops) (3) daily!  (Purchased Online) - Berberine, Ceylon Cinnamon, Chromium, Bitter Melon, Turmeric, Panax Ginseng, Glucomannan!

10) Daily Nutrition!

{Note}:

I've taken a lot of medications over the years, and have always eaten very clean, but recently I had to refine my nutrition, and now I'm only eating 1 meal per day which is around 5 pm in the evening with my family, and the rest of the day I eat very small amounts of food several times per day. πŸ‘‡

1) Morning Breakfast: 1-2 cups of plain yogurt with a half a cup of chia seeds!

2) I drink about 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar. It tastes terrible so you can put some in water to dilute so it won't taste as bad, and I will also add lemon juice about the same amount to my water!

3) After the gym I will generally drink a protein shake (20-30 grams of protein)!

4) Eat with my family and I will pick and choose what I can have, and with most meals I will eat a meat item which has protein, always a vegetable such as Broccoli, Cauliflower, Green Beans, Spinach, or Corn, and a Sweet Potato because it's a super food!

5) I will come home and check my blood sugar always at least 2-3 hours after eating, and then I will have another protein shake, and a handful of unsalted peanuts, or almonds, and I drink Diet Green Tea, Water, and on occasion I will drink herbal teas. (Chamomile is supposed to about the best for blood sugar)!

6) A couple hours later I will eat a very small piece of dark chocolate and peanut butter, but not too much, and the dark chocolate must have at least 85% cocoa!

7) I will usually eat about 2-3 spoons of yogurt with chia seeds again!

8) Next, I like to eat a nice salad with spinach leaves, croutons, bacon bits, Shredded cheese, tomato, and I like to top it off with a few hard-boiled eggs or chicken for some protein!

I know this probably looks like a lot of food but I'm eating very small portions, and I do change it up once in a while with unflavored oatmeal, or grits, and maybe cottage cheese with sliced tomato, and maybe an oz of mozzarella cheese. I try to avoid fruits for the most part but on occasion I will eat a small apple with peanut butter before the gym for some carbs in order to get through tough workouts. The only bad vise I have is on occasion I will drink an energy drink because I don't sleep much and am usually tired and need that kick in the seat of the pants. The FDA says that 400 MG. of caffeine within a 24-hour period is deemed safe and usually get sparking ice which has 60 MG of caffeine, and it's not messing up my numbers much at all, but everything should be trial and error for each individual because we are all different on how our bodies handle things.

I check my glucose twice per day, and my numbers are the best I've had in over a decade, but it's been a lot of trial and error. The problem I'm having right now is that I'm experiencing a bloating problem and the Insulin is partly responsible, along with the fact that I've put myself in too much of a calorie deficit which means that I will need to get more calories but still stay in the deficit, and I can do that with powdered supplements such as Greens with fiber, and an extra protein shake daily. The fiber will help with gut enzymes and should help with the bloating. Things like this can happen when you get older, and I turned 60 earlier this year with 52 years of fitness and nutrition expertise under my belt!

Real quick before I end this post, I will explain the calorie deficit in case you want to see where you're at. The human body needs approximately 15 calories per pound of body weight, and that means if you're a 200-pound man or woman you need to eat 3,500 calories per day just to maintain your current weight. (200 pounds x 15 calories per pound of body weight equals 3,500 calories). Obviously if you want to lose weight, you eat less food, which means less calories, which equates to weight loss.

There are a couple ways to go about this. The first way is to fix in your mind your target weight, and multiply that number by 15, and that is the number of calories you need daily to reach that weight over an extended period of time, and the other way, which I think is best and the safest is to go back and think about the weight you wish to attain, and whatever that number is start off by dropping 250 calories per day from your meals for a month and if you're able to lose 1-2 pounds per week safely then continue with what you're doing. But if you're not happy, drop another 250 calories which now puts you down 500 calories. Continue to drop small increments for a month until you're happy with where you're at. Just be patient, and you will achieve your GOAL! I hope this helps you, and if not, you're always welcome to contact me with any questions!

The bottom line is that the better you eat the better you will feel, and the better your glucose numbers will be. If you're not sure what to do, you have Google at your disposal or go see your physician so you can create a game plan that works for you!

{Massive Reticulated Python}

The Retic (Malayopython Reticulus) is the world's longest snake, native to Southeast Asia, known for its impressive size and unique patterns.  I took this picture at one of our local pet stores, and the picture doesn't really do it any justice because this a massive snake, and I've yet to hold this beauty, but hope too eventually once we see if it shows signs of aggression. Just be very careful if you're ever around one because they can be a dangerous snake ⚡⚡⚡

(Characteristics)

Size: The reticulated python is recognized as the longest snake species in the world, with individuals reaching lengths of up to 10 meters (32.8 feet). The largest recorded individual measured approximately 10 meters

Appearance: It features a distinctive net-like pattern. On its scales, which provides excellent camouflage in its natural habitat. The specific name "reticulatus" refers to this reticulated pattern.

(Habitat)

Geographic Range: This species is found across Southeast Asia, including countries like Indonesia, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Malaysia. They inhabit tropical forests, woodlands, and areas near water sources such as rivers and lakes.

Adaptability: Retics are excellent swimmers and have been reported far out at sea, allowing them to colonize many small islands within their range.

(Diet and Behavior)

Feeding: As ambush predators, retics primarily feed on small to medium sized mammals and birds. Their diet can include rodents, civets, primates, and even larger prey like deer and pigs. They kill their prey by constriction, wrapping around it and suffocating it before consumption.

Reproduction: Female retics can lay between 15-80 eggs, which they incubate by coiling around them. The eggs typically hatch after about 70-90 days.

(Interesting Facts)

Human Encounters: Although rare, there have been instances where retics have attacked humans, typically when they feel threatened or are provoked.

Lifespan: In captivity retics can live for up to 30 years, making them a long-term commitment for pet owners. This is a fascinating species that plays a significant role in its ecosystem as a top predator, helping to regulate prey populations and maintain ecological balance.
